Title: Children of the Resurrection
Recipient: [personal profile] brightly_lit
Rating: T
Word Count: 5389
Warnings: Some swearing. Mild violence.
Author's Notes: Prompt: ‘Outsider POV where a teen girl's brother is possessed by an angel and he suddenly starts spouting all kinds of divine wisdom ... and he is suddenly incredibly powerful. Maybe she's a popular girl and he embarrasses her more than ever now, maybe she got bullied and that's no longer a problem thanks to him, or any other situation you come up with.’ Writing an outsider POV was a challenge, but it was a lot of fun to do. Just to let you know, Sam and Dean don’t turn up straight away in this, but you will see plenty of them.
Summary: He’s been wearing the same suit for four days straight.

Final schedule for Yuletide 2017

Nominations Friday Sept 8 - Saturday Sept 16
Sign-ups Sunday Oct 1 - Monday Oct 9
Assignments out by Sunday Oct 15
Default deadline Monday Dec 11
Assignment deadline Monday Dec 18

Please note that this is a week earlier than the draft schedule we previously posted.

New Year’s Resolutions notification

If you took part in Yuletide and defaulted after the default deadline, or you submitted an incomplete story at the posting deadline, or you defaulted in Yuletide twice in a row, we ask you to complete a New Year’s Resolution story before you sign up again.

We have just sent an email to everyone who was added to our NYR list after Yuletide 2016. We don’t want you to get to Yuletide 2017, try to sign up, and realise at this late juncture that you are under a restriction.

The email we use is the one currently associated with your AO3 account. If you have any doubt about whether you fulfilled the Yuletide challenge last year, please check your AO3 account details to see what email address the message was sent to. It’s also possible that our message has gone to your spam folder.

You are welcome to comment here or to email yuletideadmin@gmail.com and ask if you are on the list of people who need to complete a New Year’s Resolution fic.

If you defaulted in a previous year, you may still be on our NYR list.

More information about New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s Resolution fics written for the purpose of re-qualifying for Yuletide must be posted to the New Year's Resolutions 2017 collection before you sign up to Yuletide 2017. They must be over 1,000 words and written to a previous Yuletide prompt. You can write for a Yuletide 2016 prompt, or you can choose an older Yuletide prompt as long as the fandom in which you write is small enough to still qualify for Yuletide (that is: when adding the total fics on AO3 and ff.net, there are fewer than 1,000 fics that are in English, complete, and over 1,000 words long).

The New Year’s Resolution system exists for several reasons:
  • It's an incentive to encourage people either to default early, or, to push on through and post something

  • It works as a warm-up, or as practice, or as a way of proving to yourself you can finish a story to a prompt

  • It's a contribution to the project of getting more stories written in tiny fandoms

  • It's a way of ensuring that past prompts don't get entirely forgotten.

If you had to default in a past year, we are aware that this may have been for a carefully-considered reason or in a difficult time. Needing to complete a NYR does not mean we think you're a terrible person. We hope you use it as an opportunity to write something you enjoy.

You are also welcome to submit a NYR story if you just feel like writing one! The collection will stay open for late fills until Yuletide 2017 assignments are sent out.

Writers are especially encouraged to write stories for prompts that were not filled during the main Yuletide run.

Missy Remix: Interest Poll

Jul. 11th, 2017 07:52 pm
trobadora: (Missy (stylised))
[personal profile] trobadora posting in [community profile] doctorwho
After the recent series finale, [personal profile] navaan and I shared our squee for Missy, and while bouncing fic ideas around we had an idea for a different kind of Remix challenge.

It went something like this:
  1. The world needs more Missy!
  2. Someone should do a fest or a challenge or something.
  3. A fest where Missy gets to be in everything! Everything’s better with more Missy.
  4. A Missy remix! Remix this fic by adding Missy to it!
  5. Someone should really do that.
  6. "Someone" is going to be us, isn't it?

In general terms this is how it would work:

Like in a normal remix challenge, people would sign up with the body of Doctor Who work they've written and be assigned a remixer, who gets to pick one of their stories to remix. The difference - all remixes would have the aim to add Missy somehow:
  • Missy's POV on what happened
  • Missy doing things behind the scene while the plot unfolds
  • Missy directly bursting in on the story and interacting with everyone else
  • ...

(More general info about remixes.)

This is a very specific idea for a fest and before we set to work, we wanted to find out if anyone who isn't us would be interested in taking part in a challenge like this. So let us know:

Discussion: Wonder Woman movie

Is anyone interested in a discussion of this film? I'm guessing by now a lot of people have seen it and so far I get the impression the general reviews have been positive. What do you think? I believe she definitely qualifies as an awesome woman. :-)

Disclaimer: My only knowlegde of the character stems from DC's animated series, I haven't ever read a WW comic but I'm told by more knowledgeable fans the animated series got her essence right.

Some points to talk about:

- portrayal of Amazons
- representation of different kinds of women in general
- Diana as a role model
- fun factor :-)
- portrayal of Steve Trevor and his interactions with Diana
...

Character: Rey
Inspired by: Jacket, Droid, Lightsaber by [personal profile] imaginary_golux
Summary: The fic that inspired this points out that abundant water is a new thing for Rey once she's with the rebels. Apparently she gets fascinated by washing machines and uses them for meditation.

Title: Meet the Parents

Rating: PG
Word Count: 2,500

Author's Notes: I was excited to write for this prompt (and this person! for reasons that must remain secret because they would give away my identity) because I'd been ruminating on all the possible scenarios/configurations/consequences of Amara having brought back any number of different combinations of people Dean would like to have back in his life, and for John to have come back with Mary (as in the prompt I chose) was one I definitely wanted to explore.

Summary: When Amara said she wanted to give Dean what he needed most, she didn't mean just Mary, she meant John, too--the whole family back together. Maybe it's what he needs, but it sure isn't what he expects.
