I really liked one particular J2 fic with alpha/omega dynamics, but what I loved about it was that it was all about subverting the trope. :-) But otherwise, yeah. I see that people might like the tropes associated with werewolves/knotting/mpreg, but they don't do anything for me. A) because of the way the tropes are usually written, as you said, and B) because I'm not at all inclined toward reading about absolutely normative relationships in which one character is perennially submissive to another.
