A 2025 Experiment: Increasing fandom slots for nominations & requests
As we all start planning our nominations and requests, mods have been reviewing our rules around the number of fandoms that can be nominated and requested.
Traditionally, Yuletide has allowed participants to nominate a maximum of 3 fandoms to the tagset, with up to 4 characters each. We increased that to 4 fandoms in 2023 and got positive feedback about that change.
During signups, participants have been required to request at least 3 fandoms, and up to 6 fandoms if they choose. They must offer a minimum of 4 fandoms.
We've needed to limit the tagset size due to a combination of AO3 technical limitations as well as the logistical effort to confirm each fandom is eligible while avoiding duplicate fandoms. The good news is that we’ve found AO3’s tagset interface loads the moderation tools a bit faster lately. We've also developed more scalable processes and a group of wonderful, experienced volunteers to help with that checking. We think we can handle more nominations this year, but we won’t know until we try!
For 2025 only, we are going to increase the number of tagset nominations from 4 fandoms to 5 fandoms per person. The maximum number of characters will remain at 4 per fandom.
We’ll see how this goes, and whether the additional workload seems manageable to us, before deciding whether to keep the increased limit in 2026.
For 2025 only, we are also going to increase the maximum number of fandom requests from 6 to 8. The minimum of 3 will not change. This means you must request at least 3 fandoms, and up to 8 fandoms if you choose.
Everything else remains the same: for each fandom, you will still be able to request up to a maximum of 4 characters. You will still be required to offer at least 4 fandoms with a minimum of 2 characters each.
Again, we will evaluate how it goes, and how this affects our workload, before deciding whether to keep the increased limit in 2026.
We hope this opens up some exciting possibilities for you in the 2025 round! Please stay tuned for our usual eligibility and evidence posts.

How to fulfil the requirement
Stories written for the purpose of re-qualifying for Yuletide must be posted to the New Year's Resolutions 2025 collection before you sign up to Yuletide 2025. They must be over 1,000 words, written for a specific person's past Yuletide prompt, and given to that person. You can write for any Yuletide 2024 prompt, or you can choose an older Yuletide prompt as long as the fandom in which you write is small enough to still qualify for Yuletide (that is, there are fewer than 1,000 fics on AO3 that are in English, complete, and over 1,000 words long).Purpose of New Year's Resolutions
The NYR system exists for several reasons:- It's an incentive to encourage people either to default early, or, to push on through and post something
- It works as a warm-up, or as practice, or as a way of proving to yourself you can finish a story to a prompt
- It's a contribution to the project of getting more stories written in tiny fandoms
- It's a way of ensuring that past prompts don't get entirely forgotten.

This question I saw on author_by_night, which I gave my answer there but I wanted to elaborate more here:
What's a fandom that honestly made you quit the fandom and/or the piece of media itself?
Out of all of the fandoms I've been involved in, the only one that has truly made me quit both the media and its fandom was Supernatural. Anyone who was around back then on LJ knew how deep I was with the show during the very early seasons (S1-S6), I was quite invested with not only watching the show but also engaging with the online fandom. I participated in fan discussions, wrote episode reviews immediately after watching an aired episode, wrote metas, did fanmixes, it was also the fandom that I ended up going to my first convention for and met some online friends in real life. Those were some of the upsides to my fandom experience, however the downsides sadly far outweighed all of those positives. There was a lot going on with my frustrations with the direction the show was going during the sixth season along with the aggressively toxic nature of the fandom itself, which unfortunately that negativity regretfully bled into my own attitude and behavior at times upon interacting with the fandom, something that I am honestly ashamed of. It was all becoming too much for me to handle, mentally and emotionally. Stepping away from both the show and the fandom itself turned out to be the best decision for my own sanity. It truly became a hard lesson for me to learn about quitting something that was making me unhappy, that even if I wanted to stay with it for a particular character/actor or even for the online friends I had made along the way, it's just not worth it.
Interestingly, now that the show is over I have just recently been returning back to reblogging things about it on my Tumblr once again. I guess time and distance, and also having a closed canon, was all that was needed, as well as a very different fandom atmosphere then when I had last left it. Less toxic and more introspective, the never-ending memes, etc.

How is it that we have four more months left in the year?
++ A/B/O Desire (or simply Desire The Series), the Chinese BL Omegaverse mpreg office drama, has been utterly delightful because it not only does it feature so many of the familiar tropes and going further than any other Omegaverse drama has done, the story itself is quite compelling as well. From the character drama to the complicated relationships and power dynamics, it's quite delicious with how things have been developing. I'm personally invested with Gao Tu and Shen Wenlang's whole situation. Moreover, Shen Wenlang's actor has a striking resemblance to Wang Zhuocheng (Jiang Cheng from The Untamed), that it kinda takes me out every single time I see on him screen especially when he's scowling. It's just a funny coincidence is all, especially since the actor's name is Jiang Heng which doesn't help with the distraction, lol. Either way, I'm having the time of my life with this drama.
++ Another drama that is currently airing is that I'm also having fun with is When Destiny Brings The Demon, which became kind of an unexpected surprise for me. It's a nice combination of the tone seen in Love Game in Eastern Fantasy and the heavier plot elements from Love Between Fairy And Devil. I know that the transmigration of a modern FL into a historical/fantasy world has been a common trend lately in cdramas and this is no different, however in this case the female lead is very trope-conscious, and despite just wanting to be lazy and not want to be involved with anything she figures things out and adjusts accordingly to her predicament. I adore her. Also, this is the first time I'm seeing Chen Feiyu in a role and it has me yearning for Immortality and see his Mo Ran, gdi.
